someone really just sent me this on skype

Message them back the definition of the word “homonym” and then tell them to mind their own goddamn business.

I already blocked them on skype. I have literally no idea who this person is and I don’t want to press the issue any further, it actually really freaks me out because I don’t even know how they found out my skype name or who told them that or anything. I want to believe it’s just some random skype user that’s sending that shit to everybody…but I really don’t know. If someone really did tip them off, I would like to know because that means there is someone on my skype list that I can’t trust…

Can I do it instead?  People like this piss me off.

I like telling people like this one of these two things:

1. Words have different meanings depending on context.  Don’t tell me not to call someone “tall” since there are also “tall” coffees at Starbucks.  I will not be confused and accidentally try to drink a guy if you call him tall.

2. Invoking “that word means something IN SCIENCE” to tell us not to use the word is pathetic.  “Theory” means something different within a scientific experiment compared to what “theory” means outside scientific contexts.  The meanings of words that are used in specific scientific environments are never enforced as having NO RIGHTS TO USAGE outside that context.  That would be silly.  (But it’s easier to pretend this is a semantics issue than it is to actually address the fact that people who say this have a problem with asexuality, not language use.)

Iiiiinterestingly … this jerk who’s speaking for “Society” doesn’t even have the definition of asexuality right.  It’s not “not liking any type of sexual activity.”  Why can’t people like this just crawl back under the rocks they came from?
