Fire people are impassioned; they are “on fire,” whether with ideas, goals, or causes.  They are natural leaders, as they convey their passions with an intensity that compels others to pay attention.  Fire people can be as fascinating, as hypnotic, as watching a campfire.  In politics, a Fire candidate might have an Air strategist working in the background, but it’s Fire’s face that will appear in the TV spots.

Rather than thinking, like an Air person, or feeling, like a Water person, the Fire person “just knows.”  Fire people go by their gut, and once they’re sure of something, they don’t waver.  They commit fully to whatever their passion is.

The Fire person “lights up a room.”  They have a “burning” presence.  Of the four elemental characters, Fire is the most interesting and exciting to be around.  Arguably, they are also the most dynamic sexually, as their nature is to be lustful and desirous.  They’re impassioned and devoted lovers, and may tend toward flamboyant romantic gestures.

Their heat and passion can become negative.  They can be hot-tempered, prone to rage, and even violent.  Their combination of lust and impulsiveness might make them unfaithful, and their utter faith in their gut instincts might make them self-righteous, barreling past the considerations and concerns of others.  With their knack for passionate focus, they run the risk of becoming obsessive.  Fire is also impulsive, which is neither good nor bad; it depends on the situation, and it depends on the Fire individual how it gets expressed.

Fire people also have the gift of transformation.  They can turn their negativity into a new, more positive way of being.  They can choose to take in other elements, thereby assuring they won’t burn out.

Elemental Life Role: AIR

People who are living the Air role are often children or teens.  They are either formally students or they are, in one way or another, in a learning, rather than doing, process.  Although every one of us learns throughout life, people in the Air role are learning things they *aren’t yet doing*—the Air role person has not yet had a lot of direct experience in the area of study.  Sometimes an older person will choose to restart life—ditching a career and going back to school, for example—and that person is in the Air role because, even with a lot of life experience, it isn’t being applied at the moment.

Air role people are sometimes messengers, because Air communicates, but also because the “in-between” part of life is a natural time to act and be perceived as a messenger.  It’s sometimes the case that people who are “always in the middle” are a little naïve, and subject to manipulation by others.  Sometimes it’s not negative at all; the messenger simply has no personal agenda, and is able to act as a go-between without adding any baggage.

An Air role person usually doesn’t have a relationship of any significance.  (If someone reverts to an Air role, that person may have built a relationship during a non-Air part of life.)

The combination of a Fire type with an Air role is a real go-getter!  They bring boundless energies to new projects of all kinds.  They may lack follow-through, but they sure know how to get things started.  They focus on learning and on beginnings with an effective intensity and power.  They may love to build things and may have little projects and hobbies throughout their homes.  Most might be unfinished, and many will never be finished, but some will benefit from unwavering focus.

They can tend to exhaust those around them.  Although a great organizer, Fire of Air people are the type who draw others to them and persuade them to participate in whatever it is they have their sights on, and their friends and associates may have trouble keeping up.  They’ll drag friends to a party, or out to the woods to cut cordwood, or to some out-of-the-way, very spicy Mexican restaurant.

Fire of Air is usually a very good-looking character.  They have a youthful face full of brightness and, yes, fire.  Their eyes are bright and their skin looks healthy.  Their laugh is infectious.  Their flaws are Fire flaws—a hot temper, an excess of impulsiveness.  This can be particularly difficult in the Fire of Air person, because Fire’s flaws are often childish ones—tantrums, rash actions—and the Air role of life is usually a role of youth.  Fire of Air’s task is to mature past the Air stage in one piece.
